A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Photopsia is a tale of horror inspired by the phenomenon of photopsia.

It's about Iris, a young girl who's been suspended from school for the coming week and will be home alone for the days to come, unfortunately for her, misfortune has always had her in its sight and is ready to strike at any time.

I really like odd horror and strange tales, so I've always wanted to make something like this, so I made it for my graduation project. Since the reception was quite positive I decided to keep working on it, though I think I would have kept working on it regardless of that.

It's pretty much a one-(wo)man project as everything except for the music and sfx are done by me.
The music and sfx are made by Tyas van den Bergh, who you can find over HERE

That ending is a real smack in the face, but I guess that's a testament to how captivating this game is. I hope it gets finished someday.

I really liked the art style in this game. I really hope that this game will be completed soon.

Really like the demo, it felt a twisted version of Alice in Wonderland, especially with the aspects of the bedroom in the other world. At times it did feel a little long in the description slowing down story development, might be more because of it being a demo and a lot of the explanation would have more meaning in the full game.

Loved the art direction of the game, especially with how many expressions you have built of the main character. The otherworldly realm was great; it really felt out of place, yet really fit the story and art style.

Hopefully we will see a full release of the game in the future, the demo looked amazing and had and really looked imaginative for the other world.

After all this time, I was so glad to hear the final version of Photopsia had been released. Although I was deceived, I had a wonderful experience learning the story of Iris. Of all the visual novels I have played this has to be one of my favorites. It starts out gritty and introduces elements of real life we might all relate too. I had a bit of my own hiatus from games, however it would seem this is the one which drew me back. I have taken my time with this video, a few days and hours of thumbnail work. I fell in love with the music soon after returning to the first installment. Although i had played it before, the first portion was all the more entertaining because I could still recall the story. I love what you've done with this game and I am on edge to see the conclusion. Thank you for your efforts in supplying the community with an "indie phenomenon" as I once said, and agree with today!

Until the next chapter...

Oh I'm sorry! It was the final version of the demo, I should definitely have made that more clear.
Thank you very much for playing the improved version and even taking the time to make a video of it!
It's nice to see that you still found the first part enjoyable despite having read through it already and of course, it's nice to see people finally getting to experience the new parts of the game as well.
Hopefully, you'll find final version to be to your satisfaction, once it comes out, haha.
Thank you for playing and giving feedback!

The art is beautiful, Iris' circumstance is intriguing, and I realized that some of the narration could be intepreted to a twisted way of thinking and led to a psychological horror *adding it to the waiting list*

Love the game and can't wait to see what happens to Iris and the horror in store.

This was a very interesting demo. The art style is incredible and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and get scared. The story really built up the suspense. I can't wait for the entire game to come out!

I don't usually play this type of game but your art really caught my attention so I gave it a go.

The look and feel of the game  made me feel like this was more of a serious horror than a load noise jump scare kind of game which isn't a negative, but the amount of reading involved made this feel like a book instead of an interactive experience however I know this is a demo so take that criticism with a pinch of salt I'm sure you're working on adding more elements in later versions and when you release them I'll happy play again.

Although like I said this felt like a book the art is amazing and the amount of work you must have put into the script tells me you really care about this game which I applaud.

Keep up the good work.

hello! So just found your game in one of the recommended titles in itch.io's page. I find it intriguing! and I think the art style matched the vibe that you were going with! Anyways, I also will keep an eye on the future developments of the VN and would like to know more~ (since I only have a grasp of Iris's life but I can tell that there's more to it than that).

I found the artwork interesting and appreciated the backstory set up. Beyond that, I feel like you could have removed some of the "fluff" in the vn. Mainly the parts like "Iris pulls out a nightdress and went to take a shower." But that might just be me.  Anywho, I'll keep an eye on this VN.

A have many great things to say about this game. Before I even began playing, I was immersed by the artwork and the intriguing before/after surveys. Needless to say I loved this game. From the beginning it establishes a sensation of more. By that, I mean to say there is something hidden beneath the surface of this girl's bruises and empty apartment. I cannot believe the detail of the character story, as well as the darkly-shaded atmosphere, entirely unique on its own. The story slowly began to pull me into it until I found myself relating to the character. Teenage and adolescence  is a rough time for kids, being deprived certain parts of life during this stage is critically damaging. The way the dialogue is structured alone helps create sound in one's mind, despite the silent ambient tune playing in the background. The frames for the text boxes absolutely wonderful, and I can tell they took some time with their intricate design.  The artwork in the end scene was mystifying, I found myself thinking of Lewis Carroll and Alice In Wonderland. This invokes a strange, wonderfully dark yet revealing atmosphere. I love every aspect of this game including its silence and cruelty. In the coming weeks I intend on playing this in its entirety once released. If you haven't yet, discover the world Iris lives in by downloading the demo now.

Just finished filling out the survey- the game is fantastic, eerie and mysterious. It reminds me a bit of "Fran Bow" if you've ever played that :D

Wow, absolutely love the artwork on this one. Great stuff, seriously!
